About Scott
Scott Schafer serves as of the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Security Industry Association, the leading trade association for global security solution providers, representing thousands of security leaders and experts who shape the future of the security industry. Scott also advises security firms on how to grow faster and build business value. An experienced senior executive in the technology profession, Scott has had responsibility for revenue exceeding $1 Billion and has managed organizations of 2400 associates, as well as served on executive management committees focused on strategic, policy, and operating decisions. His career includes management positions with technology companies Arecont Vision, Pelco/Schneider Electric, and NCR/AT&T.

About Daniel
Dr. Daniel Friedland, is an expert on the science and practice of high-performance leadership and the author of Leading Well from Within: A Neuroscience and Mindfulness-Based Framework for Conscious Leadership.

He helps leaders and their organizations leverage powerful neuroscience and mindfulness-based skills and practices to better navigate stress, clarify vision and purpose, and create high performing teams and thriving cultures to multiply their positive impact in the world. His expertise from publishing one of the early textbooks on Evidence-Based Medicine has enabled him to apply science-based solutions to leadership growth and development.

He has worked with Fortune 500 companies, hospital systems, government agencies and international organizations such as The Global Wellness Institute and Conscious Capitalism – having delivered over 2000 programs, reaching more than 100,000 health care and business professionals.

He not only understands the science of leadership, but having served as the Founding Chair of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and the Co-Chairman of the San Diego Chapter of Conscious Capitalism, personally understands the challenges of leadership and the growth it asks.

He currently serves as the CEO of SuperSmartHealth, where he provides keynotes, workshops and executive coaching to develop high-performing leaders, teams and organizations.

“Dr. Danny” lives in San Diego with his wife, Sue, two boys, Zach and Dylan, with whom one of his greatest joys include surfing together!

Margaux Burkholder, SE

About Margaux
Margaux Burkholder joined the industry in 2010 following her tenure at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly, SLO) where she received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Architectural Engineering. She is a licensed structural engineer with 10 years of design experience including high-rise and performance-based design, seismic retrofit and rehabilitation, multi-family residential, commercial, mixed use, and retail.

One of her recent projects include the $234 million County of Los Angeles Hall of Justice Seismic Retrofit and Parking Structure. The project turned the red-tagged 14-story, 1925 Hall of Justice into new office space for the LA Sheriff’s Headquarters as well as adding a 1,000-car parking structure. Margaux executed the project from start to finish with her team. Currently, she is working on the $2.5 Billion and 1.5 million square foot Century Plaza project involving the renovation of the existing 16-story historic Century Plaza Hotel and addition of two 46-story residential towers. Margaux has been the project lead for the seismic retrofit of the hotel and an integral part of the project’s success.

Margaux was selected as a Young Practicing Engineer by the American Concrete Institute where she presented the Hall of Justice Seismic Retrofit and Parking Structure at the 8th International Workshop on Structural Concrete in the Americas and Beyond. She is also an active member of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California and sits on the Women in Structural Engineering Committee. She is also a member of the National Association of Women in Construction.

A personal passion for Margaux is the fostering of young students’ interest in the design and construction industry. As a result, she is a mentor for the ACE Mentor Los Angeles program whose mission is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction. She also sits on the Advisory Board for the Structural Engineering Department at Cal Poly, SLO which helps to guide the future of the curriculum and prepare future college graduates for success in the industry.

About Gabrielle
Gabrielle oversees Perkins & Will’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement program, which works to support and strengthen a firmwide culture that embraces a diversity of people, colors, creeds, credos, talents, thoughts, and ideas. Her unique role as an award-winning principal and the firm’s Director of Global Diversity enables her to combine her passion for architecture and social justice to effect positive change at a micro and macro level. Gabrielle is regularly sought out around the world for her leadership and expertise in issues of social equity in architecture, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and physical and mental ability.

Gabrielle has been a key player in Perkins & Will’s success for over three decades. She’s worked in both the New York and Los Angeles offices, and became the first African-American and first woman to rise to the position of Managing Director of the Los Angeles office. Over the course of her career, she has led numerous complex and high-profile projects, including the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, one of the largest building projects ever completed for the University of California system.

Gabrielle graduated in 1984 from the Rhode Island School of Design with degrees in fine arts and architecture, becoming the second African-American woman in history to earn an architecture degree from that university. In 2014, she was elected by her peers as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and served on the AIA’s Equity in Architecture Commission. She is a member of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), a past board member of the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, the Center for Architecture and Urban Design Los Angeles. She served as the 2018-2019 President of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).
