CSI Certification Recertification

  • Required every 3 years to maintain your credential.
  • Requirements: 
    • 24 Learning Units (LUs) earned within three years before expiration. 
    • Digital application submission.
    • Recertification fee (see current pricing).  
Recertification Process:
  • Recertification opens 90 days before expiration with a 30-day grace period for reinstatement.
  • Earn Learning Units via the Learning Library (discounts for CSI members!).
  • Log and upload your Learning Units/transcripts from the CSI Learning Library or other AECO industries. Bulk submissions (e.g., AIA, LEED) are accepted in PDF or .xls format.

To check your CSI certification status:

  1. Log in to the CSI website.
  2. Click "Certification."

CSI certifications are valid for 3 years. CSI certifications expire on June 30 (Spring cycle) or January 15 (Fall cycle), depending on your initial testing cycle. CSI membership not required.

CSI sends recertification reminders starting 90 days before the deadline. 
**If you have opted out of CSI emails, you are responsible for tracking your recertification date - mark your calendar!

How to Maintain Your CSI Certification:

  1. Earn 24 Learning Units (LUs) within 3 years before expiration.
  2. Log LUs in your CSI account:
    • While logged in, click "Certification" on the left sidebar.
  3. Submit your application via "Recertify" (available 90 days before expiration; email reminders provided).
    • While logged in, click "Certification" on the left sidebar.
  4. Allow 5-7 days for CSI review. Additional information may be requested.

Continuing Education Learning Units (LUs) Guidelines

  • All LUs must relate to the AECO industry; at least 50% must align with your CSI credential. (View knowledge domains for CDT, CCCA, CCS, CCPR.)
  • Minimum LU credit: 0.25
  • Only LUs earned and submitted within the 3-year cycle are accepted. 
  • Multiple certifications? Each requires 24 LUs. Up to 12 LUs (50%) may overlap if relevant.
  • Bulk LU submissions (AIA, Hanley Wood, RedVector) are accepted via transcript uploads.
  • No duplicate credit for both live session and on-demand versions of the same session.

Passing grade transcript required from US accredited colleges and universities only. Course content must be relevant to the CSI credential body of knowledge.

Volunteer (CSI national, regional, chapter) 1 Hour = 1 LU 2 LUs per year Service as an appointed or elected CSI volunteer on a board, committee, working group, or task force. Must be an active and engaged participant to expand skills and enhance professional growth.
Presenter/Author - Technical content 1 Hour = 1 LU 2 LUs per year
Prepare, research, write, and/or present current and relevant technical content to a professional audience via audio, visual, and/or written delivery of technical information or information about the profession.

Prepare and successfully pass a new, specialized CSI credential exam during the renewal cycle for a previous CSI credential (e.g., have a CDT, study, and pass the CCCA exam). *Cert prep exam instructors can claim up to 4 LUs per year.
Exhibit/Tradeshow 1 Hour = 1 LU 2 LUs per year
Gain technical product knowledge from product representatives and manufacturers.
Professional Reading 2 articles = 1 LU 1 LU per year
Include only articles from peer-reviewed, technical journals. Industry trade periodicals do not qualify (i.e. Construction Specifier)
