2026 Call for Nominations

CSI Board of Director Nominations

Overview

CSI's Nominating Committee is charged — per the CSI Bylaws — with presenting a properly screened slate of qualified candidates to the membership for election to the Board of Directors. Each year, the Board advises the Committee on the skills, attributes, and experience it believes will best serve the membership, and the Committee uses those criteria to guide its work.

How Nominees Are Identified

The Committee builds its pool of potential nominees from three sources:

  • Submitted nomination applications from members
  • Recommendations from Region Nominating Committees (for Regional Director seats)
  • Recommendations from current and past CSI Board members

Regardless of how a nominee enters the process — whether through self-nomination or recommendation — a completed nomination application is required from every nominee.

Nominee Criteria

All nominees are evaluated against the same core criteria, regardless of how they entered the process:

  • Active voting membership in good standing with CSI
  • Commitment to CSI's mission and the time requirements of board service
  • Key leadership competencies: instills trust, values differences, collaborates, strategic mindset, and ensures accountability
  • No conflicts of interest in board decision-making
  • Understanding of CSI's organizational culture

Evaluation Process

Once nominees are confirmed, the Committee conducts a structured evaluation:

  1. Application Review — Membership status and background are verified; the nomination application is reviewed against the position description and the skills/attributes identified by the Board.
  2. Candidate Contact — Each nominee is individually notified of whether they will advance to the interview stage.
  3. Behavioral Interview — Advancing nominees are interviewed by the full Nominating Committee to assess suitability and alignment with the competencies in the position description.
  4. Slate Selection — From among all interviewed nominees, the Committee selects a final slate of candidates to be placed on the election ballot presented to the CSI membership. More than one nominee may be advanced as a candidate. There’s no requirement to put forward more than one, or only one.

Regional Director Nominations

For Regional Director seats, each Region runs its own parallel nomination process before forwarding candidates to the CSI Nominating Committee:

  • The Region's Nominating Committee reviews the position description and all supporting materials
  • Nominees must demonstrate the required competencies — willingness to serve alone is not sufficient
  • Each region may forward between 1 and 4 nominees for consideration
  • Placement on the final ballot is not guaranteed; all regional nominees are subject to the same full screening by the CSI Nominating Committee

In practice, it is rare that regions put forward more than one nominee to the CSI Nominating Committee. And it is common that regions put forward no one, or do not constitute a nominating committee.
