Material Delays & Labor Shortages & Escalations, Oh My! Getting projects built in an uncertain world.
Construction companies are facing severe shortages in key materials and labor while also dealing with unpredictable price escalations. These challenges have the potential to cause construction schedule delays, unplanned product substitutions, and requisite design adjustments. In response, construction project stakeholders are altering their operations and innovating approaches to combat the compounding challenges, and work towards mutually beneficial project outcomes. This panel discussion will highlight strategies and approaches used by project teams to keep projects moving forward while there is so much uncertainty around the availability of construction resources.

Jeremy is the founding principal of Daylight Studio, a full service architectural design and consulting firm located in Oak Park, IL. With over 20 years of experience in architecture, Jeremy has participated in a wide range of projects, from public higher education and cultural institutions to residential alterations. Jeremy has collaborated with a plethora of A/E/C firms, owners & consultants over the years and he prizes open and respectful communication and cooperation to meet a particular project’s goals. For projects that result in built spaces, Jeremy seeks to imbue them with beauty, utility, durability, efficiency, and clarity of idea - all of this in collaboration with his team-mates.

Vice president overseeing Bulley & Andrews’ educational market segment, Peter has 15+ years of construction experience. Fusing a penchant for client service with impeccable coordination, Peter is highly regarded among clients, peers and partners for his collaborative approach, transparent communication and solution-driven mindset. Specializing in K-12 and higher education, Peter has been involved with some of B&A’s most complex and celebrated projects including the renovation of John C. Crerar Library at The University of Chicago and the University of Notre Dame’s new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art.
As an Associate Partner and HPA’s Director of Sustainability, Megan Zack has managed and provided sustainability consulting for many of the firm’s most challenging mixed-use and residential projects, including Parc Huron, the first LEED Gold certified apartment tower in Illinois, and the Harper Court Redevelopment, which has earned multiple LEED certifications across categories.
Megan is distinguished by her ability to demystify the LEED certification process and to support clients’ sustainability objectives in a pragmatic and cost-effective fashion. Her job responsibilities include managing building projects from conception through construction administration, as well as developing firm-wide best practices and protocols for sustainable architecture.
Megan has been a frequent speaker of sustainability topics, and is a former board member of Illinois Green, the state chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Bryan has been engaged in the mechanical construction industry for 14+ years. He is currently leading the healthcare and owner-direct construction division at Atomatic Mechanical Services, Inc.
Ownership & Development: Connor Ptacin, Founder at Vector DevelopmentConnor has been a professional project manager for construction and real estate firms for over twelve years, working for both national firms and one of the largest and most successful general contractors in Chicago. Connor has over 2 million square feet built as principal Project Manager, generating raving fans from some of the biggest real estate developers, in some of the most nationally demanding real estate and construction markets. Recently, he has made the move to start his own Owners Representative and Development firm, Vector Development. Vector Development provides turn-key real estate location, negotiation, and construction management services. This allows business owners to focus on what they do best: operate their business, while Vector does what Vector does best: develop new space.
