Hundreds of AECO professionals from across the country got a live look at the new CSI Dynamic Standards℠ during a virtual webinar on June 25, featuring an interactive demonstration detailing the development of the resource, its primary functions, and its purpose to help professionals find relevant information faster across the industry, accurately navigate connected standards and classifications, and confidently verify the most recent, relevant information regarding products and specification protocol.

CSI Dynamic Standards℠ (CDS) was built to combine MasterFormat®, UniFormat®, and OmniClass® into one accessible and always-current digital edition to make standards easier to search, navigate, connect, and apply in everyday practice.
From design through operations, the result is consistent guidelines, fewer requests for information, and fewer revisions. CSI Standards Program Strategist Keith Robinson, FCSI, RSW, FCSC, told attendees, “Being current is more essential than ever. This is not just about organizing documents, but also organizing how the work is done.”
As Fast as the Future
Led by Robinson, the demonstration highlighted daily use applications based on likely searches such as: How quickly can I find what I need? Or find information faster? How many hours can this save me over the course of a project?
“What makes CDS different is not simply how quickly it finds information. It is how quickly it helps you narrow information to what is actually relevant,” Robinson said. “It allows you to filter results, move through related classifications, explore associated content, and understand where information fits within the broader structure of the standard.”
Most importantly, according to Robinson, the live standards system provides real-time updates for searches and connected information, working across connected standards, and establishing a project management hub for stakeholders at every stage of the development cycle.
“CSI Dynamic Standards are here to lead the industry forward with a vision of ensuring the industry’s core organizational standards remain current, coordinated, and capable of functioning inside a modern digital workflow, moving from static publications to an always updated and connected resource,” Robinson said, emphasizing that rather than just talking about the platform, the webinar showed exactly what it could do.
The Legacy of Continued Stewardship by CSI
Constantly updated access to the standards has always been at the heart of CSI’s mission. Even more so today, in a non-stop environment of constantly evolving information, technological breakthroughs, and environmental issues that define the AECO industry on a daily, if not hourly basis.
“For more than sixty years, CSI members, volunteers, and practitioners have helped build and maintain the shared language of the construction industry,” said CSI CEO Mark Dorsey. “The challenge is making sure that shared language remains current, accessible, and useful, as AI-driven workflows, BIM integration, asset management systems, sustainability reporting, and data-centric project delivery become integrated into daily practice. CSI Dynamic Standards ensures the information professionals rely on remains connected, continuously updated, and aligned with the evolving needs of the industry."
