Former President, Fellow, and Distinguished Member, Richard “Dick” Eustis Passes Away
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague, Dick Eustis, on Wednesday, January 27, 2016." stated CSI President, Lane Beougher, FCSI, CCS, CCCA. "Dick was a great human being respected and loved by many. With more than 40 years of leadership in CSI, Dick led and mentored many of us. Dick and I served together on the Governance Reform Implementation Task Team. He was an incredible fount of knowledge about the organization and its inner workings. Later, I asked Dick to serve on the Bylaws Amendment Review Task Team and he performed this role with the same remarkable dedication. His passing is a tremendous loss to the CSI family. On behalf of the Board and CSI as a whole, our deepest sympathies go to all of Dick's family and friends."
A Distinguished Member and past CSI President, Dick was advanced to CSI Fellowship in 1986 in recognition for his "sustained involvement in professional education, and outstanding participation and leadership" to the Institute. Then in 2011 he would receive CSI's highest honor, that of Distinguished Membership. Only 47 of CSI members have ever received this designation since its inception in 1954. Dick was honored for his contributions to the design and construction processes in the state of Maine and outstanding volunteer service at the chapter, region, and Institute levels of governance of CSI spanning more than four decades. Dick led by example in selfless giving of his time, talents, vision, wisdom, and knowledge.
Dick was a member of the Maine Chapter and had served on many CSI committees and task teams during his 46 years of membership. Since joining CSI in 1970, he actively shaped CSI on national, regional, and local levels, including serving as CSI President in 1997. He was particularly influential in his support of the College of Fellows and the CSI Foundation. In 2006 Dick started the Richard A Eustis CSI College of Fellows Fund. "Dick worked tirelessly over a long and esteemed career to advance the commercial construction industry and his work will continue to benefit many for the years to come," said CSI's Executive Director and CEO Mark Dorsey, FASAE, CAE. "CSI has benefited greatly from his keen intellect, guidance and friendship, and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time."
