CSI is pleased to recognize the 2018 CSI Award Winners. Recipients will be honored during the CSI Honors and Awards Ceremony at CONSTRUCT 2018 in Long Beach, CA, Thursday, Oct. 4th.

Jack P. Morgan CSI, CCS, CCCA, AIA, NCARB, SCIP, LEED Green Associate Institute Director from the Great Lakes Region—Indianapolis Chapter, CSI – Program Chair, will be honored as a member of the Class of Fellows at the ceremony. Here, he discusses what the award means to him, and how CSI has impacted his life and career.

What does being a member of the 2018 Class of Fellows honorees mean to you?

I consider my elevation to Fellowship quite an honor. I am humbled to receive this distinction. There are several CSI members that have helped me along the way and I view my efforts as a way of helping younger members improve themselves with their construction knowledge.

As Fellowship acknowledges contributions to the advancement of construction technology, of all your contributions to CSI, which of them are most significant to you?

I named improvement of construction specifications, education, and service to the Institute my contributions. Of these, I consider education to be my significant contribution: being an instructor of certification classes to many; including certification quizzes in the Chapter newsletter to promote certification that has helped my career, and helping to prepare quality programs to improve the education of members in my Chapter. CSI is all about the dissemination of educational knowledge to participants in the construction industry.

How has being a member of CSI improved your life and your career?

I joined CSI because I realized that CSI offered career-advancing tools that no other construction organization could offer. I believe that I have gotten far more out of CSI I have put in. Developing leadership skills, gaining knowledge of the construction industry, and sharing fun activities with a bunch of nice people encourages me to extoll the virtues of CSI.

What has been your favorite aspect of making your career in this field?

After working on various projects, seeing those constructed projects improve people’s lives for the better.

Is there anyone you would like to recognize for supporting the work you do?

I have made many good friends in CSI. Many have supported my work in CSI and in other construction organizations. I consider my CSI friends to be the ones who encouraged me to pursue Fellowship and assisted me along the way. Also, I can’t forget the support and patience of my family for me to pursue my CSI activities and encouraging me to pursue this goal.

What advice would you share with newer CSI members about how to have a career as fulfilling as yours?

Sharing leadership experiences with others coming up with their careers is my biggest satisfaction. Encouraging those members to get involved with some aspect of the Chapter, Region, or Institute activity will help CSI and themselves with their career development.

What can CSI and the College of Fellows do to encourage more deserving CSI members to go for Fellowship?

Demystify the process of applying for Fellowship by holding sessions or webinars to explain the process, and promote the nationwide network of Fellowship mentors. Encouraging the effort of going for Fellowship is worth the time spent.
