What Do You Think: Why Recommend CSI Certifications to New Professionals?

What Do You Think, a weekly CSI conversation starter to help you share your experiences, insights, and observations about the work you do was introduced last month on the CSIResources.org CSI-Connect Community.

This week’s post asked: Why Would You Recommend CSI Certifications to Young and New Professionals?

“Beyond the obvious reasons—education, resources, certifications—I like to emphasize the fact that when you are a member you have access to the greatest network of mentors and information that you can have. If you have an issue, you can bet someone else out there has solved it. If you need advice on how to proceed in a certain geographic area, we normally have a chapter close by and can get hold of someone who knows the ropes. This access to our network is invaluable and I have personally benefited from it. I also have been the person on the other side of the equation providing insight and information.”

- Billy Mathis FCSI, CDT

“There is no other advocacy group like CSI in our industry. CSI crosses disciplines, provides cogent information, organizational tools, and a professional network that is not found in any other organization in our industry.”

- Dean Bortz MA, CSI, CDT,CCPR

“I would recommend the CSI certifications to ALL professionals; not only young professionals or those new to the AEC industry. The Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification is the one I recommend starting with, as it covers many topics that affect all of us in the industry, regardless of our profession. The advanced certifications are more specialized toward a profession (a specifier, contract administrator, or product rep).”

- Lee Ann Slattery CSI, CCPR, LEED AP

“I may be slightly biased, but I believe CSI’s certification program is the best way to learn the right, and the most efficient, way to do our construction industry jobs. CDT candidates learn more about roles and responsibilities, proper channels of project communications, and basic documentation just in preparing for that exam than most learn in five years in the field. The upper-level certifications are similar, but with more in-depth knowledge of the processes we all use.”

- Ann Baker RA, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, LEED AP, SCIP

“I would recommend it as a means in which for individuals within the industry to participate in both promoting our industry as well as expanding the ideas and conversations for any given subject related to the industry, and in turn as Mr. Mathis has indicated; educating, which leads to continual growth. Having recently joined it is my initial goal to attain my CDT and CCCA in short order so that I too can aid in the expansion of CSI and become a greater resource for those who I collaborate with. We're all in this together!”
