I have always been a writer! As a young student I would spend hours writing in journals, filling the pages with ideas and dreams. With the introduction of technology the journals turned into word documents cataloged neatly in a writing folder on the computer. When I began my professional career armed with a drafting degree, I didn't realize that my love of writing would be the driving force behind my career advancement as a Spec Writer.
I enjoy the clear and concise approach to developing specifications combined with product research and the challenge of saying it once and in the right place. I have consistently sought opportunities with increased responsibility and have worked diligently at applying proper CSI principles and formats to project specifications as well as the office master. As part of the design team I have contributed to the successful completion of a variety of projects from small fast-burn tenant improvements to large multi-building compounds. Delivery methods for these projects included traditional Design, Bid, Build as well as Design Build and GC/CM. The success of these projects was the result of adhering to a tight and varying schedule as well as communicating well with the Project Manager and design team.
Participating in my local CSI Chapter has been valuable to my career. I have volunteered my time as Programs Chair, Newsletter Co-Chair, President and am currently the Spokane Chapter Past-President. Knowledge is power, and I have enjoyed the various opportunities to teach CSI best practices to our Chapter and local A/E/C community through our brown bag lunch series and Certification classes. The valuable networking relationships I have developed through CSI have been a great asset to me and volunteering is my way of giving back.
