This is a promotion created by the Indianapolis chapter transformed a typical panel discussion into a compelling inside scoop for a major project in the city. Michigan's Going to Pot

Michigan passed a law to make pot legal for recreational use in November 2018, and the Metro Detroit Chapter decided to hop on that big news and do a program about it. Barely 90 days after the vote, they held a panel discussion to help members make money off the new law. When you are the first to bring the news customized to the AEC industry to your members and guests, it's easy to fill a room.

What Ghosts Are Lurking in Your Computer System?

The Nebraska chapter created a Halloween hook for their talk on cybersecurity. "When I shared the screen, you could hear an intake of breath and a few giggles," said Vincent Fallon. And that is exactly the kind of reaction you want to hear when you share your hooks for upcoming meetings--it means you got people's attention!

When you can double dip your hook, people enjoy the clever yet valuable frame and are more likely to check out what the heck your chapter is doing. Another DCP trick!

Do You Have an Axe to Grind?

The Baltimore Chapter stretched some comfort zones using the DCP Approach with several of their spring meetings. In May, the chapter held an axe-throwing social event. Axe-throwing is a hot event around the country right now. The axes are small and pretty much anyone can throw them. Since few will be brilliant at it, creates a laid-back way to socialize and have fun at the same time. Their chapter paired a fabulous event idea with "sexy copy" to hook their attendees.

Peel Back the Layers

The NOVA (Northern Virginia) Chapter has a team involved in the DCP and often polishes their meeting promos during our group sessions. It's paying off - meetings are more fun to plan and attend in their chapter. Check out their June Meeting promo. The NOVA team does a great job of honing a powerful hook then weaving the hook throughout their promo content. NOVA Team also gets the power of extending their hook through the participant experience. For this meeting, there were oranges on the tables and some very fun group photos with orange-colored sunglasses provided to participants.

Baby it's Code Outside

One of our first DCPers caught the eyes of members and guests by creating a powerful hook for an upcoming code-focused program: "Baby It's Code Outside", a Warm up to the 2015 IBC Implementation. The hook combined with a new location created new energy for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter's program. An eye-catching hook makes people pause in their skimming and wonder what your chapter is up to. When people are intrigued, they are more likely to attend.

Want to Be Fabulous this Holiday?

The Sacramento Chapter embraced the DCP Approach and took some risks with their holiday meeting in December 2018. And it totally paid off! They tried something new - a horse drawn wagon hayride through the Sacramento Fab 40s district to take participants to a costume party. Prizes for the most fabulous Hayride Holiday Outfit. It was an opportunity to enjoy viewing historical homes in a laid back way that members would definitely remember.

Booze and Brews

Any event your chapter holds - including social events should still use the DCP Approach leading with a catch hook. The Memphis Chapter shared the promo from their latest networking event. They used a fun graphic incorporating artwork from the brewery on the front of their site. The actual promo page continued the story sharing info about brewery tours, pumpkin pumpkin painting and more. The family-friendly event was held on a Saturday afternoon and had around 40 attendees!

What Gets Traded at Trade Shows?

One of the ways to get people to attend your chapter meetings is to ask and answer the questions people are wondering about - but no one is really talking about. The Toledo Chapter used this DCP strategy to give some energy to their chapter meeting. They led with a killer question to set the stage for their discussion that day and didn't rely on flashy designs. When you have a strong hook and the sexy copy - the supporting questions in this case - you don't have to be a graphic designer to get people to show!

Work Gotcha Loaded Down?

We live in a scanning world. As a result, images matter in your promotion. They need to support your hook and help stop people in their scanning. The Mississippi Chapter always has some story-telling images incorporated in their promotions. They recently rebranded their happy hour to Construction, Cocktails and Camaraderie, and this is their debut promo. The photo definitely makes you look twice!
