In more than 50 years of practice as an Architect, Mr. Dodd-Hansen has won many awards for both design and specifications writing while working with such eminent Architects as R. Buckminster Fuller, William Wilson Wurster, Rex Whitaker Allen, Edward Durell Stone, Nathaniel Owings, and subsequently with his own firm. Since entering private practice as an Architect he has developed his firm into a practice specialized in construction contracts, specifications and construction communications. He has created award winning master specifications systems for numerous design firms and institutions based on the systems created by his firm.
Since early in his career Mr. Dodd-Hansen insisted that he write the specifications for all projects for which he was responsible as Architect of Record. In 1978 he was one of the first individuals be certified by CSI as a Construction Specifier (CCS). In 1989 he refocused the efforts of his firm from a private architectural practice to a building information and technology systems consulting firm. Although he focuses his expertise on development processes for educational, public sector and medical projects, he has demonstrated expertise on projects ranging from high rise buildings, to theme parks and high technology facilities.
He is a former President of Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice (SCIP). He served as the representative of the CSI/CSC/SCIP Alliance on the NBIMS Committee/Information and Knowledge Management Subcommittee developing information structures for BIM, and as Chair of the CSI Institute BIM Steering Committee. He was elevated to Fellowship in CSI in 2006 thus making Dane and his partner Sheryl the first married couple to attain this status in the history of CSI.
He recently has served 2 terms as President and is currently serving as Advisor/Past President of the Sacramento Chapter of CSI, is a West Region Director and is the Chair of the West Region Academic Programs Task Team that represents CSI at the annual Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Student Competition each year.
