FOR DESIGNER PRACTIONERS WORKING WITH A SPECIFIER

Educational Seminar Series

Sometimes it's difficult to understand the Specifier-to-design-team relationship, regardless of whether your Specifier is in-house or a consultant. In this class, learn how to work most efficiently with your Specifier and how to best leverage their skill set to add additional value to your team. Faith Brown, CSI, CDT, SCIP will join last month’s returning speaker Sherry Harbaugh, FCSI, CCS, RA, SCIP as the two guide you through the ins and outs of this relationship dynamic and its possibilities.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS:

Faith Brown CSI, CDT, SCIP

Specifications Writer at Integrated Spec Solutions

Faith has spent several years writing architectural specifications ranging in size from small fast-burn tenant improvements to technically complex multi-building compounds. She has been responsible for preparing project specifications, and determining innovative ways to meet client needs through construction specification research and delivery.  Her detailed approach enables her to assist the project team in resolving problems related to the use and installation of building materials and products as well as evaluating their suitability for the intended application, proposing alternative products when appropriate. Delivery methods for these projects included the traditional Design, Bid, Build as well as Design Build and GC/CM.  With her drafting background, Faith enjoys reviewing the drawings to verify that the specifications are well coordinated.  This coordination effort is no doubt due to her active membership in CSI, which focuses on communication among all members in the construction industry.  Faith has diligently studied proper CSI principles and formats and applies them to her projects.  As an active participant in the CSI Spokane Chapter, she has taught CDT Classes, Specification Organization and communication practices for the entire AECO Spokane Community.  Through her CSI roles, Faith has developed her leadership and management skills, a great addition to her evolving specifications success.  She enjoys working as part of the design team and contributing to the overall success of the project.

Technical Resources Consultants Inc (TRC)

After nearly 30 years in the construction industry predominantly as an independent consultant, my current focus revolves around educating, empowering construction teams to be confident about communicating with specifications and learning about construction materials.

I am passionate about educating the next generation of our industry in the aspects of specifications. I enjoy working with teams, researching products, and encouraging trust within the industry. I believe product knowledge comes from asking questions, listening to others, and digging into information.

I am a Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute (FCSI), participating at local Chapter, Region, and Institute levels for the last 30 years. The majority of my contributions have been centered on educating groups and individuals for the CSI certification exams, working with product manufacturers to create interactive opportunities, and providing leadership on committees.

In May of 2023, TRC launched an education arm - Specs Education Online. This e-Learning tool aims to educate the next generation of construction teams by providing quick answers to basic specification questions and assist the self learner to understand specifications as a career path.
