  • BUILDING OUR TRANSIT FUTURE - SOUND TRANSIT'S EXPANSION PLANS & DESIGN STANDARDS - Chapter Meeting

    May 9, 05:30 PM - 08:00 PM (PT)
Building Our Transit Future - Sound Transit’s Expansion Plans & Design Standards Chapter Meeting Sound Transit is currently delivering the largest voter-supported transit initiative in North America. Not only will this expansion transform mobility in the Puget Sound region, but it will also bring multiple associated benefits such as transit-oriented development, public art, job creation, and access improvements in the areas around our stations. How does an agency undertake such a large assignment while planning for consistency of passenger experience, system identity, and maintenance practices? This presentation will provide an overview of Sound Transit’s mission and current projects, then take a deeper dive into the establishment of the agency’s design standards and specifications. We will then look at projects currently in design and discuss the ways in which the public and the AEC community can engage with the agency. PRESENTERS Catherine Calvert, AIA ENV SP LEED AP CCS Catherine has been a Principal Architect at Sound Transit since 2022, following many years as Managing Director of VIA Architecture and as a sole practitioner at C-Square Consulting. She is currently acting as owner’s architectural representative for Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link and Federal Way Link Extensions, as well as the new Operations and Maintenance Facility South. Catherine holds a CCS certification as spec writer and has been an active member of the PSC CSI ProSpec committee for several years. • TAMING OF SPECS - ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION - Educational Seminar Series

    May 28, 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM (PT)
CLASS 3 Submittals and Substitutions and RFI Oh MY! Submittals, substitutions, and RFI are a huge aspect of construction administration work. But what do we really need to see and are we getting that information? Are we making our own jobs harder for “future us” and our clients? Are we requiring documents that no party actually needs even as we miss critical documentation for ourselves? Join this roundtable discussion with panelists representing the Owner, Architect, Contractor, and Product Rep viewpoints to learn what each party really needs in order to create and/or to see in these documents, and how we can adjust spec requirements to get the best outcome for our projects. Looking forward to seeing you then!
