WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Over the past year, I’ve been reflecting on what it means to lead a professional community during uncertain times; and I want to speak honestly about both the challenges and the hope I see for our CSI chapter.
Like many local organizations, we’ve felt the effects of industry burnout, shifting priorities, and the strain of reduced capacity. Fewer people have time to volunteer. Workloads are heavier. And in some cases, the value of in-person or even virtual connection feels harder to define.
Our CSI Willamette Valley Chapter has seen all of that; and more. We are a small but resilient group, and at one point, we were one of the most active and admired chapters in the country. That legacy matters to me. And I believe we can rebuild something strong again; something responsive, modern, and meaningful.
But I can’t do it alone.
That’s why I’m inviting you personally to our next chapter meeting on September 24. It’s more than a meeting; it’s a conversation about how we move forward. We’ll be hosting an educational session titled:
“Understanding the Generational Divide in AEC”
A reflective, practical discussion on how we collaborate across ages, values, and communication styles in the built environment.
This topic speaks directly to our moment; where seasoned professionals and emerging talent often find themselves working side by side, but not always eye to eye. It’s a chance to learn from each other, laugh a little, and leave with tools that make project teams and office cultures stronger.
We’ll also talk about how to get involved. We have several board roles open, and we’re looking for passionate people with just a little time and a desire to build community. Whether you’re new to CSI or returning after years away, your voice is needed.
The world is shifting, but connection still matters. Professionalism still matters. And having a place to belong in this industry still matters.
