This will be the presentation that was intended for the CSI West+Northwest Bi-Region Conference on Friday afternoon, April 26th.
Steve Winkel, FAIA, PE, CASp, of the Preview Group, a building code and accessibility consulting firm in Berkeley, will present the most significant non-structural changes to the 2019 California Building Code that will take effect on Jan 1, 2020. Topics will include new provisions for fire separations, means of egress, and life safety. Note that there are essentially no accessibility revisions for Chapters 11A or 11B in this code edition.
Steve Winkel has served 5 terms on the California Building Standards Commission. He has also served as chairman of the AIA National Codes & Standards Committee, as president of the AIA East Bay Chapter, President of the AIA California Council and for 3 years on the AIA national board of directors. He is the author, with Frank Ching, of Building Codes Illustrated and of Residential Codes Illustrated, both published by John Wiley & Sons, now in its 6th Edition.
