OmniClass® Development Committee Properties and Materials Group (Tables 36/41/49). OmniClass classifies systems and assemblies and is used in economic evaluation, project estimation and preliminary project descriptions.
This working group is focused on revising and harmonizing three OmniClass tables:
Table 36 classifies information—the documents, models, records, and data that are produced, exchanged, and managed throughout the construction lifecycle.
Table 41 classifies materials—the physical substances and material categories used to make construction products, assemblies, systems, and assets.
Table 49 classifies properties – these are descriptive attributes derived from a consensus-based taxonomy. This includes things like performance attributes like fire resistance, physical dimensions, and operating information like maintenance or warranty.
The OmniClass Properties and Materials Group will meet monthly. Smaller working groups may meet more frequently to draft proposals for the working group. Familiarity with OmniClass tables and their use is very helpful. Standards work related to attributes, units of measurement, construction materials, or familiarity with construction information is highly desirable. Working Group members are engaged as subject matter experts to review proposals submitted by external users of the standard, as well as internally created proposals. Proposals are reviewed, researched if necessary, and acted on by the Committee. Members of the working group will be recognized on the CSI website.
