Starts: 10-15-2026
Ends: 05-15-2027

Description:

CSI standards work on UniFormat has been underway since March, 2026. Additional assistance is needed in each working group to draft proposals to update and expand UniFormat. Chair, Brian Joos, PE, BS, CSI, CCS®, CDT®, EIT, is leading a bold initiative to expand UniFormat into other industry sectors. Areas of expansion in this cycle include: transportation which includes roadways, bridges and airfields; water, wastewater, and stormwater; energy which includes oil and gas and electrical power; and communication including wired, wireless and satellite. The buildings group is engaged, as well.

Volunteers are needed for each working group. Working groups meet monthly to discuss proposal developments. Meetings continue until proposals have been reviewed by the full committee and no other changes are required – working groups are decommissioned after their proposal work is complete. Each group is especially in need of experienced industry professionals who understand CSI standards offerings in relation to the following industry sectors:

Working Group 1 – Buildings. This working group is updating the elements that comprise the current version of UniFormat, including acting on a proposal to more closely align UniFormat with the ASTM UniFormat II standard.

Working Group 2 – Transportation. This working group is working on expansion proposals in the following areas: roadway elements, bridge elements, railway elements, airfield elements.

Working Group 3 – Water. This working group addresses proposals for water, wastewater, and stormwater elements.

Working Group 4 – Energy. This sector is working on proposals for electric power system elements, and oil and gas elements.

Working Group 5 – Communication. This sector is working on expansion proposals for wired, wireless and satellite communications.
