January 2019 Chapter Meeting: The Living Building Challenge

 View Only
When:  Jan 16, 2019 from 05:45 PM to 09:00 PM (PT)
Associated with  San Francisco
What happens when the Living Building Challenge is applied to affordable housing? That’s the question David Baker Architects and their client Resources for Community Development took on when they joined the LBC pilot for certifying affordable housing projects. DBA’s Katie Ackerly will bring us the story of the Coliseum Place team’s pursuit of LBC petals and imperatives.
Most notably, the team has a commitment, with funding, to pursue zero net energy. They are carefully weighing the effects of ventilation, comfort, indoor air quality, and the energy budget, all in the contexts of project cost and the residents’ uses of their home. Material selection is also informed by the ambition of the Red List-free imperative – just because this measure is notoriously difficult doesn’t mean it can’t be pursued where it will do the most good, within the residential units. Join us to learn how the Challenge is shaping both the design and the design process of this ongoing project.

5:45 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. Cocktail Hour | No-Host Bar
6:45 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Dinner
