Overview:

Staying within allowable budget and time constraints while ensuring the team’s innovation decreases waste and increases value to the customer are attributes of successful project delivery and can be achieved through Target Value Delivery (TVD).  TVD is a disciplined management practice starting with business case planning continuing throughout the delivery process concluding with Post Occupancy reviews meant to obtain maximum value.  The TVD process can be supported by the use of core lean concepts like team organization, Big Room collaboration, project planning, cost modeling, continuous estimating, set based design and decision making.  Start your journey towards mastering each of the TVD phases and all the core concepts through simulation, case studies, group discussion and techniques in the Target Value Delivery education course to better align you project outcomes with customer defined value.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the attributes of a team culture to support TVD
  • Understand how to align deliverables with customer defined value
  • Learn some of the metrics to measure how you are doing
  • Gain firsthand experience with some of the challenges and decision that typically arise in implementing TVD 

Class Agenda:

  • 8:00 – 8:30 – Check-in, coffee and pastries
  • 8:30 to 12:00 – TVD Presentations (break in middle)
  • 12:00 – 12:30 Lunch – Catered lunch will be provided
  • 12:30 - 3:30 – Presentation, simulation exercise and case studies
  • 3:30 – 4:00 – Q&A and open discussion

Romano Nickerson – Principal, Boulder Architects

A healthcare architect and principal with Boulder Associates Architects, Romano Nickerson is a passionate advocate for Lean design and project management. He created and leads BA Science, a lean consulting group within Boulder Associates with a focus on continuous improvement for healthcare organizations and design integration for capital project delivery. He has worked with numerous healthcare clients around the country, as well as select Fortune 500 companies including Walt Disney Imagineering and Google.

 

Romano enjoys being an evangelist for lean thinking so has presented at the Lean Construction Institute's annual Congress, the Lean Design Forum, the Associated General Contractors of America Lean Forum, the Design Build Institute of America, the Construction Owner's Association of America, the American Institute of Architects, the Planetree National Convention, and at local Community of Practice (CoP) meetings of LCI across the country. He has also presented internationally in Estonia, China, and Greece. Romano loves swimming and playing LEGOS with his son, working on his Atomic Ranch home with his wife, and recently completed work on a pirate ship play structure in his backyard.

 

 

Jack Avery – Principal, Jack Avery Construction Solutions

Jack’s history encompasses 40 plus years working in the Pacific Northwest with two of Seattle’s premier general contractors building commercial “Class A” projects.  For the last 20 years Jack’s focus has been providing his clients with expert pre-construction and project delivery services earning Jack the recognition, trust and value as a leader in the industry.  Skilled in providing early concept reviews, cost estimating, project scheduling, assistance with selection and development of building systems, constructability input, he helps project teams find and implement innovative solutions.  Experienced in alternate delivery models including Lean delivery (IPD) and Design Build, Jack is able to help teams create a more value driven process to successfully deliver projects.
