DESIGNING LASTING BUILDINGS:
RESTORING AND BUILDING MASONRY FACADES
Thursday, February 13, 2025
5:30-8:00PM | Ivar's Acres of Clams

Join us for our February Chapter Meeting and learn about designing lasting buildings. Traditionally, masonry has been used as part of a building’s structure or cladding and has been selected for ease of modular construction and/or the beneficial characteristics of fire resistivity, sound attenuation, thermal mass, and long-term durability. However, demand for high-performance buildings, for fast-paced design/construction document development, and for increased energy code stringency requires modern masonry to be thought of less as a building material or assembly component and more as a building enclosure system.
We will review the do’s and don’ts of designing and building masonry buildings as well as sharing several case studies of innovative masonry buildings from the Pacific Northwest. During this presentation you will learn:
- Proper detailing and use of masonry systems.
- New and innovative approaches to the use of masonry.
- Common mistakes during design and construction.
