The design and construction team from LHB and Watson Forsberg worked in close collaboration for nearly 7 years to assist Catholic Charities in re-imagining and ultimately transforming their commitment to support those experiencing homelessness in St. Paul.

Two buildings, Higher Ground St. Paul and Dorothy Day Place, combine to replace an outmoded 30,000 square foot facility with nearly 300,000 square feet of supportive services and permanent housing. With 371 dwelling units and 220 shelter beds, the campus is without national precedent in scale, scope, and performance, and is the largest public / private housing partnership in state history with a combined $110 million investment.

The team will lead a conversation on the various program, technical, and construction challenges encountered throughout the two sequential projects, including social factors, site constraints, structural & mechanical systems, and a peek at performance tracked through the state’s B3 program.

Speakers:

  • Matthew Finn, Senior Architect - LHB
  • Dave Carlson, Senior Project Manager - Watson Forsberg
  • Dale Forsberg - Watson Forsberg
