Criminal Justice Reform:
On May 11, 2016, in his inaugural State of the City Address, Mayor Joe Hogsett set Indianapolis on a path of holistic, data-driven criminal justice reform. Consistent with that commitment, Mayor Hogsett signed the Executive Order launching the Task Force as the vehicle for such change. The Task Force identified its facilities recommendations for the Community Justice Campus in a December 2016 report.

In January 2017 the City announced the location for the new Community Justice Campus and by December 2017 a Project Agreement and Land Acquisition Agreement were in place between the City of Indianapolis and Citizens Energy Group.

In May 2018, work began on the new Community Justice Campus. The Campus will encompass a 3,000 bed Jail, a Sheriff’s Office, a new Civil and Criminal Courthouse and an Assessment and Intervention Center.

Work is scheduled to be substantially complete by the end of 2021 with occupancy and operations beginning in the first quarter of 2022.

Please join Matt Barnes, Vice President with Shiel Sexton, and Owner’s Representative Rick Fetz, AIA, with the city of Indianapolis, who will introduce to us the complexity and challenges thus far with the Indianapolis Justice Center project. We are also planning a “site tour” of the project as construction progresses next year.
