Where is building information modeling heading in the “sixth dimension” of project modeling? How can it take a project from design and construction to actively supporting facilities maintenance? Architects and engineers model projects in three dimensions; construction adds two more with cost and scheduling. Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) adds a “sixth dimension” by helping capture and record important project data -- equipment lists, product data sheets, warranties, spare parts lists, and preventive maintenance schedules -- and incorporating it into a usable model for facility management. A growing number of enterprises, such as universities, hospitals, and manufacturing, are requiring COBie integrated models on projects.COBie compliant models can provide information that is essential to support operations, maintenance and asset management, and can take building information modeling to a tool that is as indispensable for occupancy as it now is for design and construction. Ivan Jaramillo of AutoDesk and T.J. Meehan of CADD Microsystems will present on the topic. Are your ready?
