Puget Sound Chapter: November Chapter Meeting - Specifications and the Law: What Specifications Writ

When:  Nov 13, 2025 from 05:30 PM to 08:00 PM (PT)

Join us for our November Chapter Meeting as we welcome Margarita Kutsin, an attorney with ACS Lawyers to discuss specifications and the law and what spec writers should know.

Construction specifications allocate risk, define responsibility, and may play an important role in determining who wins or loses a legal dispute. This presentation provides an overview on specifications as well as highlighting potential issues specifications writers should consider to avoid conflict. This presentation is a structured, yet free-form discussion about specifications with an opportunity for questions and answers from participants; topics may include a project’s general conditions, conflicts between drawings and specifications, the role of prescriptive versus performance specifications, allocation of risk, incorporation of specifications into contracts and purchase orders, plus relevant, specifications-related case law. Participants should gain a better understanding of specifications, generally, CSI specifications, specifications role in a project, as well as practical tips specifications writers should consider to avoid disputes.
