Historic Building Restoration

This course will be provided through a visual presentation. The presentation will provide an overview of some of the design assist services and treatment techniques involved with the restoration, conservation and preservation of historic buildings. Through a look at a few historic building projects, participants gain a deeper understanding of the historic architectural finishes, pre-construction services, and investigations as well as the restoration, conservation and preservation options that are typically part of the restoration implementation stage of a project.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify common decorative finish techniques and terminology and their use in architecture throughout history.
2. Gain an understanding of the process and steps involved in investigation of historic paint materials and a paint study.
3. Understand the use of onsite exposures and scientific analysis.
4. Understand some of the design assist services and treatment techniques typically involved in restoration & preservation projects
