ADA & ANSI - Are You More Confused than a Chameleon in a Bag of Skittles?

When:  Mar 9, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)
CSINext March Chapter Meeting

In 1961 ANSI issued Standard A117.1. Eventually the standard was rewritten so that it could be adopted by a building code to provide access requirements for the code’s jurisdiction. The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law July 26, 1990. It was revised 20 years later, with the 2010 version. The ADA is over 30 and A117.1 is 60 years old.

However, accessible design is still misunderstood, creating design and construction challenges.

This presentation takes a look at:
  • Some of the differences between ADA and ANSI A117.1
  • Addressing the intent of accessibility and providing solutions when they are different.
  • Learning Units will be provided. (AIA LU/HSW)
