Mass Timber and Hybrid Structures
This course includes an overview of the advantages of wood, steel and concrete to obtain the most sustainable buildings. The program will explore how hybrid structures result in savings of over 50 percent in total floor thickness which can significantly reduce the embodied and operational carbon emissions of a building. Course participants will understand how combining mass timbers with hybrid structures help in eliminating columns in a layout by increasing the spans of the grid.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Participants will learn the basic types of wooden slabs available in the market today as well as the definition and components of a hybrid beam.
2. Participants will learn the installation steps involved in a mass timber slab and hybrid structure project.
3. Participants will learn the various advantages to combining hybrid structures and mass timber slabs from start to finish of a project.
4. Participants will understand the advantages of combining different materials to render a building more energy efficient with a long service life.
