How the ADA Requirements for Drinking Fountains and Sinks Enhance Kitchen and Bath Design
Course Description: Because deciphering the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) can be complicated, this course takes an in-depth look at the ADA. You will learn and understand the finer points on what the ADA is, what it means, and the history and purpose of the act. Focusing on the “Public Accommodations” title of the act, the course will explore how the ADA affects the plumbing industry and products. The course will take a deeper look at rules and requirements for drinking fountains and sinks and move into ADA-approved plumbing solutions for long-term care facilities and homes for the aging-in-place community.
Presented BY: Chris Blansett
Chris graduated from McLaurin High School in 2003 and started in the warehouse at VCM Sales that summer. VCM was intended to be a temporary summer job until he joined the family business as a union boilermaker. As he grew closer to the VCM family he decided to continue his career in the commercial plumbing industry as a manufacturers rep. His work ethic, willingness to learn, problem solving skills, and easy going personality earned him the Inside Sales position in 2005. In 2011 he was given an opportunity to grow as an outside salesman in the Jackson metro area, calling on plumbing wholesalers, contractors, and mechanical engineers. 2016 brought new challenges when the company expanded its residential line card, nearly doubling the manufacturers they represent. With additional staff and a new customer base including showrooms and builders, Chris was promoted to Sales Manager. In 2017 the Mississippi branch expanded into Louisiana and picked up some new products that are more architecturally and designer driven. Chris started building relationships at the architect level by participating in the annual CSI Product Show. He is proud to announce that his Elkay booth won second place at the 2019 show.
Covid19 has already changed the world as we knew it. More people are germ conscious and the industry is changing to more hygienic construction materials. Chris and the VCM team are designing marketing materials to become a resource for the germ conscious professional. Whether its an edgeless drain inside an Elkay sink, an antimicrobial toilet seat from Bemis, or a sensor operated bottle filling station, they want to help the industry navigate through this current pandemic.
Sponsored By: Elkay
Elkay was founded in Chicago in 1920 with a goal to manufacture the highest quality sinks and provide exceptional service. 100 years later; Elkay is still owned by the founding family, still holds the same vision, and now employs thousands of Americans with their 16 plants located in small town USA. Elkay truly believes that those employees are the reason for their success.
In 1938 Elkay became the first mass producer of stainless steel sinks in America. By 1940 they were recognized as an innovative leader in the industry and by 1957 Elkay had become the worlds largest sink manufacturer. In 1969 Elkay started manufacturing water coolers. A short 15 years later, Elkay celebrated the shipment of their one millionth water cooler. As innovation continues, Elkay changed the way people drink in 2010 with the bottle filling station. Over the years, Elkay innovation continues to evolve. With the introduction of alternate materials like quartz and fireclay sinks, Elkay is known for introducing new trends. Elkay’s most recent invention is another first of its kind. In 2020 they designed a dual depth ADA sink called the "Dart Canyon"... named because of the canyon shape and a nod to Justin Dart "Godfather of ADA". This sink features a work shelf in the front with a 9" bowl at the rear of the sink, making it an every day sink that also meets ADA.
Today Elkay is proud to be America's number one stainless steel sink and water cooler manufacturer. They look forward to their second century of innovation!
