Whether it comes post-bid in an effort to get the project under budget, or early in the design-build process, value engineering is rarely greeted with enthusiasm. Today, value engineering generally translates into cost reduction and the resulting question is “what performance was given up?†in the process. This webinar will explore how the architect or specifier can best manage the value engineering process to ensure that critical performance of extruded aluminum elements is retained. Whether specifying bespoke elements specific to the project – a decorative canopy for example -- or pre-designed components – like entry doors – there are cost trade-offs that can be made without significantly compromising performance. The webinar will outline typical applications for extruded aluminum components in commercial properties, the decisions regarding materials, configurations, and finishes that can impact cost and performance, and the trade-offs that should be considered by the specifier to achieve the desired building design and performance.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify building elements where extruded aluminum components can impact project cost and performance.
  2. Analyze the potential impact of material, configuration, finish and sourcing specifications.
  3. Assess typical cost/performance trade-offs.
  4. Determine optimal specification strategy.
