May Hard Hat Tour: Burbank Auditorium Modernization Project and SRJC Photovoltaic Microgrid

When:  May 2, 2019 from 03:30 PM to 05:00 PM (PT)
Associated with  Redwood Empire
Join us on a two-part hard hat tour of the Santa Rosa Junior College campus, exploring the $28 million renovation of the 80 year old Luther Burbank Auditorium and recently completed photvoltaic solar microgrid project.

Luther Burbank Auditorium Renovation
The auditorium project renovates the interior of the 400-seat auditorium with improved sight lines and full Americans With Disability Act–compliant access. Improvements to back-of-house production spaces will include a renovated prop shop, full costume-production facility and two new classrooms. There will be a new “Studio Theater,” a multifunction space that will be used as a 200-seat teaching classroom, a black box theater and a movie theater.

The exterior shell of the building will be preserved, but the interior spaces will be completely modern, allowing the theater faculty more flexibility in the types of programs they offer. Overhead lighting and audio-visual equipment will be state of the art and designed to match the standards that SRJC students will expect to find when they work in industry.

Microgrid

The Sonoma County Junior College District received nearly $5 million in grant funding from the California Energy Commission for a microgrid demonstration project at its Santa Rosa Junior College campus. The project plans to use photovoltaic solar power to meet 40 percent of the electricity needs at the campus. The project will reduce peak load, optimize energy use, provide support to the surrounding grid, and create a highly resilient power system by allowing the campus to provide emergency services during power outages.

The tour will be led by David Liebman and Serafin Fernandez of the Santa Rosa Junior College District.
