Where will the Academy Event take place?

The onsite Academy will take place in Chicago, IL with all webinars/roundtables offered online through the CSI website.

Who should attend the Academy?

The Academy Program is designed for the experienced professional. While Risk Management affects all members of the project team, the focus of the presentations, discussions, and dissemination of information will be targeted to members with multiple years of experience in their respective field. For an attendee to benefit completely from all experiences related to the Academy Program, CSI suggests registrants have:

  • Received an undergraduate degree in a construction, legal, or project management related major;
  • Participated in the launch, development, erecting, and completion of a commercial building project;
  • Served as a professional in the fields of design, engineering, contracting, construction, or facility maintenance for a minimum of five consecutive years; and/or
  • Currently function as the manager or decision maker for a company or institution related to the development of commercial buildings and/or products used in the construction or use of commercial buildings.

Why should I attend the Academy?

Participants will increase their knowledge of risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring practices with the most up-to-date information. The Academy is a fully structured set of learning opportunities designed to transfer knowledge prior to, during and after the event. Your participation will enable you to improve your existing skills, teach others, and emerge as a thought leader shaping the future of your industry.

How much does the Academy cost?

The cost for early registration opening on January 9, 2018, will be $695 for CSI members/$970 for non-members. Regular registration launches on February 16, 2018, and the registration rates will increase to $795 for CSI members/$1070 for non-members. The fee includes all events including the webinars, on-site conference and the post-event wrap-up. Registration will close on April 10, 2018, and on-site registration will only be made available if space remains.

How long is the Academy?

The Academy onsite event is a 1.5-day conference, but included in registration are a number of pre- and post-event educational opportunities with exclusive access to curated knowledge resources online. The schedule of events can be found at www.csiresources.org/academy.

How do I register for the Academy?

Registration is open from January 9, 2018, to April 10, 2018, at www.csiresources.org/academy. If you do not have an existing account with CSI, you will be prompted to set up a free account prior to beginning your registration.

Can I register for the Academy if I am not a CSI Member?

Yes! CSI is excited to bring this unique educational program to all professionals. Registration is discounted for CSI members but all professionals are welcome to register and join their peers.

I am a student/emerging professional/retired/emeritus member. Do I get a discount on registration?

Due to the limited space available and the scale of the Academy, there are no specialty registration rates.

I live near Chicago. Can I commute to the Academy instead of getting a hotel room?

Yes. For those that are local to the event, you may commute. The parking fee at the hotel is $72/day. To get the full networking experience and avoid the notorious Chicago traffic, CSI strongly suggests at least reserving a room at the conference hotel the night of Thursday, April 26, 2018.

I attended past CSI Academies, is this the same thing?

The new Academy program draws heavily from the successes of previous years. Unlike past Academies that focused content in tracks dedicated to Specifiers, Contract Administrators, and Product Representatives, the new Academy program is designed to address unifying aspects of project delivery that affect all members of the project team.

Previous Academies had tracks tied to CSI certifications. Why did that change?

The Academy program continues to offer professional development on project delivery practices that are key elements of the CSI Certification’s body of knowledge. Every member of the project team has multiple roles to play in the development of a building project and the Academy is designed to address those areas that encompass all members at numerous stages of the project cycle.

The Academy has two tracks? Which one is right for me?

If most of your duties on a project happen before or away from the construction site, the Project Conception track has been designed for you. However, if most of your work on a project takes place on the job site or addressing aspects of the project’s construction and completion, the Project Execution Track is designed with you in mind.

How many credit hours can I earn at the Academy?

The Academy program will offer up to 12 professional development hours through a mix of online and in-person presentation, group learning, panel discussions, keynotes, and roundtables.

Can the credit hours earned be used for CSI’s certification maintenance requirements?

Yes. CSI is excited to announce that all sessions (online and in-person) can be submitted towards maintaining your CSI certification.

Will the session be eligible for AIA, USGBC, and/or other organization’s Learning Units?

Any session that is approved by other organizations will be clearly indicated as part of the session’s description online and in-person. The final details are in development and will be announced when confirmed.

I have a great idea for a session, can I present at Academy?

While a number of sessions are already in final development, CSI is always excited about new and fresh education ideas. If you have an idea for a session on Construction Risk Management, please email academies@csinet.org with a brief description of your idea and how you see it benefiting this year’s Academy program.
