NFPA 285 Compliance is a complicated beast and I am curious to know how this community tackles the issue in your specifications.
NFPA 285 is a wall assembly performance test with specific details requirements. The components of the wall assembly, from interior finish to exterior cladding and attachments, reside in multiple specification sections and are installed (in most cases) by multiple trades. Reconfirmation of conformance to the test standard is required with substitutions or other changes to the materials or detailing of the wall system.
How do we specify conformance in a specification system organized by product to ensure changes in any single component triggers reconfirmation of compliance through a new referenced successful test report or engineering judgement? Is adding a requirement with each spec section product to "Comply with NFPA 285" sufficient? Has anyone ventured to reference NFPA 285 compliance in Div 01?
