Three Failures and a Save
Friday, September 24: 10:45-11:15 a.m.
This presentation will review three building enclosure assemblies that have experienced failures and show why they failed. We will discuss how making a few specific changes to the original design might have prevented the failures and review basic building science and physics. Live hygrothermal analyses will demonstrate why these building enclosure assemblies failed or would have failed had they not been changed, even though they complied with building code.
- Evaluate building closure assemblies for potential failures
- Design exterior wall assemblies based on climate zone and use
- Recognize how hygrothermal modeling can be used to avoid exterior wall assembly failures
