Get to know the speakers that will be presenting at the CSI National Conference. 

Christopher Alexander, CSI, CDT®

BIM Leader, Progressive AE

Christopher Alexander is a registered architect and BIM Leader at Progressive AE. With 10 years in the AE field, his passion for learning has helped him to embrace and understand a variety of tools from AutoCAD and SketchUp through Rhinoceros, Revit, and now, BIM 360. Utilizing these new tools and getting the most advantage form any of them is a priority and fundamental need for agility in the AECO (architecture, engineering, construction, and owner) arena. Moving from Revit user, to resource, to manager, and now to the BIM Leader position he tries to function as a guide and coordinator in the use of BIM in its many manifestations throughout the full-service AECO firm. With an eye to the future and advancement, he holds the opinion that we can continually strive to become better in what we do while simultaneously advancing ourselves, sometimes by inches, and sometimes by light years, toward the future of the industry.

Leonard L Anastasi, CSI, CDT®

President, EXO-TEC Companies

Len Anastasi has worked in the construction industry for over 40 years in masonry, and waterproofing, and restoration. Anastasi is the owner and operator of EXO-TEC Companies, three entities that specialize in exo-systems in buildings. In his construction and consulting work, Anastasi has performed inspections and/or repairs on over 300 buildings, given expert testimony in dozens of legal cases, and written numerous articles and papers on building enclosure performance. He is a member of the ASTM’s E 06 Committee on Building Performance and the Boston Society of Architects Building Enclosure Council, and is a founding member, past president, and past director of the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA). Anastasi is the chair of ABAA's Conference Committee and also serves on ABAA's Marketing Committee, Technical Committee, Research Committee, and Ad Hoc Committee for Technical Notes. He is the current president for CSI's Northeast Region and director for the Boston Chapter.

Eric Bearden

Senior Architect/Principal, Gresham Smith

Eric Bearden is a senior architect with experience as a project designer, project manager, and construction manager. His work represents a broad spectrum in the design and planning of facilities. With an extensive background in the development of projects, Bearden offers a comprehensive approach to the client's long-range needs, functions, and operational efficiencies. He performs construction services on every project he has designed. The advantage of this is to ensure that the quality and intent are maintained and executed throughout construction, and to adapt the client's evolving needs to the current construction for successful project outcomes. Bearden as over 30 years of architectural experience and team leadership. His portfolio includes numerous project types and construction types, varying field conditions, and construction relationships. Project types include mixed-use, corporate, healthcare, aviation, and water + environment.

Susan W Bliss, CSI, CCS®, CDT®, CCCA

Specifier, Principal, Spec Services, LLC

With over 35 years of experience in specifications writing, construction contract administration, interior design, and accessibility consulting, Susan Bliss now focuses on specifications writing as principal of Spec Services, LLC. Her experience includes healthcare, educational, commercial, hospitality, senior living, and multifamily. Because of her passion for sharing her knowledge and experience with others, Bliss developed a training program for specifiers. Additionally, in 2020 she launched Spec-LAB, an educational library with the mission of improving construction documents through knowledge. During Bliss’s 26-year membership in CSI, her activities have mainly focused on education and specification teaching for the CDT® certification.

Ivette Bruns, CSI, CCS®, CDT®

Senior Associate Specifications, RATIO

Ivette Ramirez Bruns is currently senior associate|specifications at Ratio Architects, Inc. An active member of CSI’s Indianapolis Chapter since 1995, Bruns has been a board member, secretary, Education Committee chair, and Membership chair, and currently serves as president-elect. She has also been involved with the CSI Great Lakes Region and has served as the region’s president, Education Committee chair, Awards Committee chair, and as a presenter at several GLR Conferences. Brun helped update the most recent GLR Strategic Plan and the CSI Indianapolis Chapter Strategic Plan. She has been on the committee to organize several GLR Conferences and was on the Host Committee for CONSTRUCT, Indianapolis, 2009. Her primary career focus is to educate those that work with her and inspire those coming into the industry to continue learning more about the technical information and specifications behind the design.

Gregory Buchanan, CSI

Technical Director, SE Region, Nelson

Gregory Buchanan has spent his nearly 30-year career endeavoring to advance the practice of architectural delivery through experience and leadership at top-ranked design firms. With advanced degrees in both architecture and civil engineering, his pragmatic approach to problem solving enables him to develop and implement successful strategies and coach excellence in all facets of project delivery. Sharing his passion for process improvement, technology, and project delivery to a broader audience, Buchanan has presented his methodologies for a Lean Architecture at over a dozen regional and national industry events since 2013. He currently serves as vice chair for the BIMForum’s 2021 Lean task force and is co-author of the book Lean Architecture: Excellence in Project Delivery published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Michael F Czap

Project Executive, The Beck Group

Michael Czap has over 38 years of broad experience in architectural planning, design, project management, production, and contract administration. He is skilled at project and team organization, the process of putting a building together, and coordinating a thorough team effort. Czap currently serves as chair of the 2021 BIMForum Lean Taskforce, is a regular speaker on Lean Architecture and advanced project delivery processes as well as Building Information Modeling (BIM), and has presented at over 60 national and regional venues including five AIA national conventions. He coined the term and introduced the concept of “Lean Architecture” with the application of Lean principles to design practice and project delivery. Czap co-authored the book, Lean Architecture: Excellence in Project Delivery, released in April 2021, and the Construction Documents chapter for the AIA’s 15th Edition of the Architect’s Handbook for Professional Practice.

Janet E Diercks, CSI, CCS®, CCCA®

Director of Professional Content, Building Systems Design, Inc.

Janet Diercks is a registered architect and CCS® who has practiced specification writing and project management in architectural firms and as a consultant since the 1980s. Diercks’s experience encompasses a wide variety of project types including historic preservation, labs and hospitals, schools, industrial facilities, religious facilities, and many others. As a member of the CSI Certification Maintenance Group, she had the wonderful opportunity to extend her CDT® teaching experience directly to CDT, CCS®, and CCCA® test validation and development. As director of professional content at BSD, she leads a team of expert architects, engineers, and support staff in providing exceptional master specification content in SpecLink, the premier database platform. Diercks continues to serve the design and specification writing communities as a teacher of specifications writing and as an active member of CSI's Atlanta Chapter and its current chair of certification committee.

Paul Doherty, CDT®

Paul Doherty is chairman and CEO of TDG (the digit group www.thedigitgroupinc.com). As seen on Bloomberg TV, acknowledged by CNBC as one of America's Business Titans, and reported by Forbes as “Changing the World”, Doherty is an award-winning architect and one of the world’s most sought-after thought leaders, strategists, and integrators of process, technology, and business. He is a senior fellow of the Design Futures Council and a fellow of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). His current work is as chairman of TDG Global Ventures, a Smart City real estate development company that provides financing, design-build, and innovative technology solutions around the world. Concurrently, he is the co-founder and producer of the critically acclaimed AEC Hackathon (www.aechackathon.com) that launched at Facebook Headquarters. Doherty’s past successful ventures include Revit Technologies (Sold to Autodesk 2002), Buzzsaw (Autodesk 2001), and TRIRIGA (IBM 2011).

Steve Gocinski

President, Fire and Security Services Corp

Steve Gocinski has an iconic career in the New York Tri-State community in regard to building his sub-contracting career from a sole practitioner to a major force in his market. His tough but fair position and disposition has evolved into a trusting relationship with the major players in the New York Metropolitan market. Being a leading voice and implementer of Life Safety and Security services, Gocinski has emerged as a leader in one of the leading markets today.

Thad Goodman, FCSI, CCPRTM, CDT®

Architectural Manager, National Gypsum Corporation

Thad Goodman is the Central and Midwest Region construction design manager for National Gypsum Corporation. He has presented hands-on workshops at national trade shows and has worked in the capacity of “Train the Trainer” for AIA presentations with two different companies. He has appeared on shows such as Bob Vila’s “Home Again” and HGTV. He also has been a frequent speaker for McGraw Hill and provides a seminar entitled “3 Part Specifications and the Building Product Manufacturer.” Goodman is active in CSI where he is the current Secretary of the Columbus Chapter, immediate past-president of the CSINext Chapter and the Great Lakes Region. He also serves nationally on the CSI Foundation Board.

Martin Helly, CSI

Principal, M H Specs LLC

Martin Helly has over 40 years' experience in the construction industry and has worked on hundreds of projects, from small residential alterations to some of the world's largest structures throughout the US and abroad. He has been involved in all aspects of design and construction including as a practicing architect, a design-build contractor, a product manufacturer’s representative, an owner’s representative, and for the past 20 years primarily as a consulting specifier. Once the project documents are complete and the project is underway, the spec consultant is called upon by the team less often... until there’s a problem. It is amazing what you see when you get called to the site.

J. Brok Howard, CDT®

Technical Account Manager, dRofus Inc.

Brok is a Technical Account Manager at dRofus Inc. He leads the effort in implementation, training and support for all of North America. He is a registered Architect with BIM Management experience. Brok has over 18 years of experience working in the AEC industry on both small and large projects and has spoken on BIM and Data Management at BIM Forum, CSI National Conventions, and to other regional and local organizations. His background teaching at Washington University in St Louis and as a BIM Manager has prepared him to provide an advanced level of strategic training and implementation techniques.

Holly Jordan, FCSI, CCS®, CDT®

Director of Specifications, Perkins&Will

Holly Jordan has produced construction specifications for a variety of building types, including K-12 schools, higher education, multi-family, hospitality, medical, commercial office and retail, landscaping, oil and gas, veterinary, and civil engineering projects in the United States, South America, Africa, and Saudi Arabia. As a CCS® her experience includes sustainable building, diverse project delivery methods, specification format conversion, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing specifications. She has held offices and served on committees for CSI at the local, regional, and national levels. Jordan has organized and taught courses on construction specifications and LEED® certification and made presentations on topics related to construction contracts and specifications to various design firms, ASHRAE, and NAWIC.

Erica Kennedy, CSI, CDT®

Principal | Hospitality Studio, ODA Architecture

Erica Kennedy is an architect and new principal with ODA Architecture. She graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture, a minor in dance, and a Bachelor of Architecture in 2011. Kennedy received her license to practice in 2018 and primarily focuses on hospitality architecture, more specifically, hotels. She joined CSI in 2008 and serves as House Committee chair of the CSI Charlotte Chapter, as president-elect of the Southeast Region, and as a member of the Institute Awards Committee and the Component Value Task Force. She also is involved in the Women in Architecture, AIA Charlotte Scholarship Committee, and the local Hospitality Tourism Alliance. Kennedy completed the Young Architect Forum’s Leadership Development Program with AIA Charlotte in Spring 2020.

Kathryn Ann Marek, CSI, CCCA®

Principal, KM Architectural Consulting

Kathryn Marek has worked for architects large and small, contractors in the office and the field, and owners as the owner’s design/management staff. She has worked on projects that range in size from floor replacements and one-room tenant improvements to complete airport terminals, military bases, and theme parks. She has worked for both private and public clients on projects with life spans from six months to 100 years. This has given her direct experience of many different project delivery methods and owner concerns. Marek is now operating as an independent consultant, working with firms predominately on projects for long-term owners with large portfolios. She is a licensed architect with over 20 years’ experience in technical architecture, construction contract administration, and contract document creation/coordination, which she brings to the service of her clients.

Robert A Miller, CSI

Director of Business Development, BASTEEL Perimeter Systems

Robert Miller is an experienced business development specialist with a demonstrated history of success working in the perimeter security industry. Decades of hands-on practical experience both in the office and in the field provide him with the ability to professionally guide those looking to secure their perimeter by assessing the vulnerability of their site and determining the correct products and design layout relative to their needs. Miller has used his expertise to support the construction of many diverse projects, including a major league sports facility, high-level military facility, and state police public safety facility. He is an active member of CSI as well as the American Society for Industrial Safety and the Society American Military Engineers. He is also a board-certified physical security professional. Miller is committed to lifelong learning to ensure that the latest trends and standards of the industry are utilized to ensure a complete and effective perimeter security solution.

Mark L Ogg, CDT®, CCCA®

Senior Project Manager, JLL

A senior project manager of projects for a global commercial real estate services firm, Mark Ogg has over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry, spanning the consumer goods, manufacturing, industrial, petroleum, and commercial markets. Past roles include project manager, lead project manager of project controls, and project management director. With an extensive background in cost estimating and project controls, work process development, technical design development, and contract negotiation, Ogg is responsible for the project life cycle from conception through completion. He is involved with CSI’s only virtual chapter, CSINext, serving as a board member since 2015, and currently serving as a board member at large. He also serves on the CSI Academic Advisory Committee and Construction Specifier Editorial Advisory Committee. Ogg was a speaker at CONSTRUCT in 2019.

Jeffrey D Parnell

Project Manager, Fleming Architects

Jeffrey Parnell is an architect and project manager with Fleming Architects in Memphis, Tenn. He graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in architecture in 2012 and has been a member of the CSI Memphis Board of Directors since 2014. Parnell served the AIA Memphis Board as an EP director between 2016 and 2017 with the mission to advance the needs of young design professionals within Memphis by advocating for licensure, creating study groups for the ARE, and providing more materials and incentives for achieving licenses and certifications. He received his license to practice architecture in 2017 and advanced to the role of president of CSI’s Memphis Chapter in 2018, serving two terms. In his continued involvement with the chapter, Parnell fulfills various committee positions, including Products Show chair and lead website designer.

Casey F Robb, FCSI, Lifetime Member, CCPR™, CDT®

President, CF Robb Consulting Services

Casey Robb brings over 35 years of architectural sales and business development experience and in 2017 formed CF Robb Consulting Services. He started his consulting services helping building product manufacturers and industry associations connect with his professional network and refine business development strategy, tactics, education, and architecture representative training. He is a former director of business development for Kingspan IMP Division and former commercial sales manager with DuPont Building Innovations. Robb is very active with CSI as former Atlanta Chapter president, SE Region & Institute director, Institute vice president, and former CSI president. He is a CSI fellow and lifetime member, a CCPRTM, and a LEED® Accredited Professional. He currently serves as chancellor of the CSI College of Fellows and as secretary for the Atlanta CSI Foundation. He is a professional member of IIBEC – The International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants.

Brian Stroik

Performance Excellence & Quality Consultant, American Contractors Insurance Group

Brian Stroik is a recognized industry leader in the construction of energy-efficient, sustainable, and durable buildings. He works with key industry organizations – including the Air Barrier Association of America, the National Building Enclosure Council, the Building Enclosure Technology and Environmental Council (BETEC), and ASTM E06 – on research and education regarding building enclosures, energy efficiency, retrofitting, and upgrading existing building enclosures. Stroik is a frequent speaker on the subjects of commissioning the building enclosure (BECx), quality in construction, and mockups/first-run studies. He has also chaired numerous speaker sessions at national conferences and hosted roundtable discussions. His white papers on the subjects of building energy efficiency and building enclosure design, among others, have been published in The Journal of Energy Efficiency & Reliability, The Journal of Building Enclosure Design, and SprayFoam Magazine.

Beth Stroshane, CSI, CCS®

Managing Partner, Applied Building Information LLC

Beth Stroshane is managing partner at Applied Building Information LLC, an independent specifications consulting firm in Seattle, Wash. She works on a wide range of projects and produces specifications for new buildings and renovations of existing facilities. She serves both public and private clients, and participates in design/bid/build, design/build, and negotiated contracts. Currently Stroshane is writing specifications for Living Building Pilot projects, HUD projects, LEEDv4 Commercial and LEEDv4 Homes projects, and is exploring how other ratings systems impact specifications. She is heavily involved in reinventing the process of developing project specifications to respond to the increasing rate of change of products, requirements, delivery methods, and clients. She is also active in CSI and speaks nationally at industry events.

Dave Stutzman, FCSI, CCS®

President, Conspectus, Inc.

David Stutzman is an independent construction specifier and architect. He founded and leads Conspectus, Inc., the largest expert independent specifications consulting firm in the United States, based in southern New Jersey and with multiple regional offices. Stutzman has extensive experience in producing architectural and engineering specifications for federal government masters, commercial masters, office masters, and construction projects. Additionally, through the specification process, he becomes a quality assurance partner by identifying areas of concern to be addressed by the construction documents. He is leading the initiative in delivering integrated Uniformat® and MasterFormat® specifications that align owner project requirements, design intent, and estimates for critical decision-making required to balance performance, quality, and costs during the design process. Stutzman has created and developed an “industry-first” tool to produce written construction documentation that benefits all members of the project team, in particular the owner, estimator, and architect/engineer.

Erica Weeks

Associate Principal, Director of Sustainability, HASTINGS Architecture LLC

Architect Erica Weeks earned her first LEED AP credential in 2006 and has facilitated the sustainability process on over 200 projects, under the array of available rating systems. She has a keen ability to create synergies between disciplines, execute the calculations required to forward ideas, and provide project-based mentorship to design professionals, with the overall goals of making sustainability inherent to the design/construction process and fostering the education of the next generation of design professionals. In 2017, Weeks was named one of Nashville Business Journal’s Women of Influence, in the category of Inspiration/Mentoring for her ongoing support of professional education within Hastings and beyond. In October 2020, she was named a “Shero” in Courage by the US Green Building Council for continuing to challenge the “business-as-usual" thinking of the design and construction industry to make sustainability an embedded priority.

Heather Worrell

Director of Design Delivery, RATIO

As RATIO’s Director of Design Delivery, Heather Worrell manages BIM technology, drawing/modeling standards, and project delivery training across the firm. She heads up several project delivery task groups and works alongside BIM Specialists to review where project teams can improve their workflow and become more efficient in the delivery of their projects. She also facilitates meetings amongst consultant teams at the onset of projects and is engaged as needed throughout the project life cycle. Worrell is a registered architect with 20 years of experience and values her time spent working on projects as well. This project work allows her to see standards and workflows in action and gives her a chance to understand where improvements are necessary. A driving force in RATIO’s early adoption of BIM technology more than a decade ago, she has overseen the evolution of RATIO’s digital design process and is recognized as a national leader in the field.

Lakisha A. Woods, CAE

President and CEO, National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS)

Lakisha Ann Woods, CAE, is President & CEO of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). Woods is responsible for leading the organization’s dedicated team of professionals, enhancing its value, visibility and growing relationships with its members, clients, public agencies and partners. She also leads efforts to expand NIBS programs and markets, while growing and strengthening its membership base.

Prior to joining NIBS, Woods served as the Sr. VP & Chief Marketing Officer with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). There, Woods led a 27-member team responsible for all marketing and revenue-generating programs, including sponsorship sales and partnerships with major national companies.

Woods currently serves on the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Board of Directors as Secretary/Treasurer and serves as Vice Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council Board of Directors, where she previously served as Secretary/Treasurer. Woods also serves on the Advisory Board of Crosswalk and has spoken at numerous national and international industry events. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland in College Park and lives with her husband and daughter in Howard County, Maryland.

Michael Young, FCSI, CCCA

Senior Project Manager, City and County of Denver, Colo

Mike Young, FCSI, CCCA is a senior project manager for the City and County of Denver and an adjunct instructor at the Community College of Denver. He has been a project manager/owner’s representative on a large variety of vertical and horizontal projects for municipal and quasi-municipal employers for 25 years. Young earned his degree in construction management from Colorado State University in 1986 and continues to support his alma-matter as an active member of the CM department’s Professional Advisory Development Board. He has been an active member of CSI since 1992 and has held a multitude of chapter, region, and Institute board, committee, and task team positions.
