This past June, I attended CSI's Master Specifier's Retreat for the first time.  The event brings together specifiers and others who make product selections with manufacturers for two and a half days of discussion, education, and networking.

One of the reasons I've enjoyed attending Construct each year is the ability to learn from other specifiers and from product manufacturers.  The Master Specifier's Retreat provides excellent opportunities for both.

As a specifier attendee, you would attend 10 half hour meetings with manufacturers, chosen based on your preferences and theirs.  At these meetings, you will have the opportunity to talk to them about what they can do to provide better support to specifiers and designers, learn about their products, and discuss broader industry topics.  I found this format to allow more in depth discussions than a trade show, while still allowing me to talk to several manufacturers in one place.

The event also involves several networking opportunities where you can discuss current challenges with other attendees, continue previous conversations, or simply relax.  The program is rounded out by excellent educational opportunities.  Between all of this, you will have some down time to enjoy the resort, catch up on work, or spend more time with your fellow attendees.

Accommodations and air fare are paid for by the Institute.

The next Master Specifier's Retreat will be in San Diego, CA, January 31 to February 2.  Registration for the event closes on Friday, September 14.  I'd urge my fellow specifiers and project architects to consider applying:  https://www.csiresources.org/msretreat/home
