REROOFING: A Low-Slope Membrane Roofing Roundtable Discussion
Whether a roofing system has reached its end of life due to old age or by more urgent means, the somewhat winding and consequential path to code compliance for reroofing an existing building depends on the design path the project takes: restoration, recovering or replacement.
For this roundtable a roofing manufacturer’s director, experienced roofing contractor, forensic roofing consultant, and architectural specifier as moderator will discuss their experiences with evaluating and designing systems for low-slope commercial reroofing applications.
Open dialogue from attendees to share experiences, lessons learned, and their approach to the evaluation and design of re-roofing projects is encouraged.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify common reasons for reroofing an existing building, and how restoring, recovering and/or replacing the roof may best address those goals.
- Discuss the building code requirements that apply to both recovering and replacing an existing roof assembly.
- Identify the structural performance capacities of an existing roof and parapet structure to consider when planning a reroofing project.
- Describe the impact that energy code has on the design of a reroofing project.
