Description

Intersections – How Do We Ensure Performance at These Difficult and Leaky Locations?

The insurance industry pays out hundreds of millions of dollars every year in water and moisture issues dealing with the building enclosure, litigation for enclosure failures is just as major an issue.  Building science has demonstrated our buildings waste or leak out roughly 30% of the energy used in Northern climates.  By focusing on dealing with the areas of the building enclosure where most of these failures occur, our industry could greatly reduce these numbers and provide owners more efficient, healthier buildings for their clients.

This presentation will focus on those areas which cause most of the issues in building enclosures and provide some suggestions on how to ensure these are not issues on your projects.

Presented by: Brian Stroik, Building Envelope Solutions Team Manager, Tremco

Continuing Education: 1.0 AIA/LU HSW

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss why building enclosures matter for energy efficiency, sustainability, and durability.
  2. Review and discuss the areas with highest potential for air and water issues.
  3. Demonstrate processes to ensure potential issue areas are properly detailed and constructed.
  4. Discuss the importance of mock ups and in situ testing to ensure these potential issue areas are properly constructed.
