Intersections – How Do We Ensure Performance at These Difficult and Leaky Locations?
The insurance industry pays out hundreds of millions of dollars every year in water and moisture issues dealing with the building enclosure, litigation for enclosure failures is just as major an issue. Building science has demonstrated our buildings waste or leak out roughly 30% of the energy used in Northern climates. By focusing on dealing with the areas of the building enclosure where most of these failures occur, our industry could greatly reduce these numbers and provide owners more efficient, healthier buildings for their clients.
This presentation will focus on those areas which cause most of the issues in building enclosures and provide some suggestions on how to ensure these are not issues on your projects.

About the Presenter:
Brian Stroik is a recognized industry leader in the construction of energy efficient, sustainable and durable buildings. Brian is the Building Envelope Solutions Team Manager at Tremco, Vice Chair Air Barrier Association of America Vice Chair, Building Enclosure Council of Wisconsin Co-Chair, and a National Building Enclosure Council Past Chair.
Brian works with key industry organizations – including the Air Barrier Association of America, the National Building Enclosure Council, the Building Enclosure Technology and Environmental Council (BETEC), and ASTM E06 – on research and education regarding building enclosures, energy efficiency, retrofitting and upgrading existing building enclosures. Brian is a frequent speaker on the subjects of: commissioning the building enclosure (BECx), quality in construction, and mock ups / first run studies.
White papers by Mr. Stroik on the subjects of building energy efficiency and building enclosure design, among others, have been published in The Journal of Energy Efficiency & Reliability, The Journal of Building Enclosure Design and SprayFoam Magazine.
