Technical Roundtable: Insulating Glass Unit Failures

When:  Sep 12, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (CT)
Associated with  Chicago

Description

Insulating Glass Unit Failures

Presented by: Rebecca Booth and Dennis Johnson of Raths, Raths & Johnson, Inc.

Insulating glass units (IGUs) are a major cost during original construction and are very expensive to replace when they fail.  Issues with IGU fabrication, installation into curtain walls and window systems, and facade maintenance can contribute to the failure of IGUs.  This program will assist designers in establishing specification language to help prevent premature IGU failures.

Cost: Complimentary to members and nonmembers
Continuing Education: 1.0 AIA/CES LU

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand typical IGU components, glazing systems, and expected service life.
  2. Review common modes of IGU failures and explore what designers can do to prevent them.
  3. Examine industry standards and tests to promote long-term performance of IGUs.
  4. Review examples of poorly performing IGUs and discuss investigative measures to identify the cause of degradation or failure.

Registration ends September 7 for priority seating.

Limited seating available on a first come basis. Complimentary to members and non-members. Non-members requesting to attend will be added to a waiting list until priority registration ends. Notification of available space is sent to the waitlist registrations at least two business days in advance.
