2018 Chicago Building Code Update

2018 Chicago Building Code has made revisions that affect many of our projects. We will start with an overview of codes applicable to the architectural components. Then we will hone in on the changes that have been made in the current version.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review and be able to identify which the building codes and ordinances are applicable to projects in Chicago.
  2. Discuss pertinent changes to the current version of the Chicago Building Code. Identify the changes in the structural fire ratings in high rise buildings, and be able to define the new spray fire proofing bond strengths that are required in the Chicago Building Code.
  3. Outline the Industry standards that are required in Chicago, while not codified. Know where to find documented code interpretations and clarifications as applicable to the Chicago Building Code.
  4. Alternative Code Approval procedures for items not covered in the building code, or alternative equivalent solutions. Learn the process to be able to submit Alternative Code Approvals to the City of Chicago for approval for construction.




Registration ends August 31 for priority seating. 

Limited seating available on a first come basis. Complimentary to members and non-members. Non-members requesting to attend will be added to a waiting list until priority registration ends. Notification of available space is sent to the waitlist registrations at least two business days in advance.  Webcast link will be provided for anyone not able to attend in person.
