Installation of Gauged Porcelain Tile Panels and Slabs

 Presented by: Jim Whitfield FCSI, CCPR, LEED AP | Manager of Technical Services | MAPEI

Get a better understanding of this new tile manufacturing technology producing tile larger than 5’ x 10’ and some as thin as 1/8”. The installation of these huge tiles requires some different methods than traditional tile.  We will take a look at this new unique finish material and some of the considerations for a beautiful and durable installation.

Scott Conwell, CSI, CDT, FAIA, LEED AP, Director of Industry Development & Technical Service at International Masonry Institute, will be discussing the specification language needed to ensure qualified labor.  Scott will also share information about the ACT Certification for Gauged Porcelain Tiles and Panels.

He manages a strong Technical Services group that provides support for MAPEI’s many products for; Tile and Stone Installation Systems, Floor Covering Installation Systems and Products for Wood Flooring. He is actively involved in the development of tile industry standards as current President of the MMSA (Materials, Methods and Standards Assoc.), a proud member of the NTCA Technical Committee. Jim has held many positions at the national, regional and chapter levels of CSI. Jim received his CDT designation in 1990 and CCPR in 1993. The Construction Specifications Institute honored Jim with Fellowship in 2001.
