Specifier Roundtable: The Why and How of Air/Vapor Barriers

When:  Feb 1, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (CT)
Associated with  Chicago

Description

The Why and How of Air/Vapor Barrier

We used to just put some black stuff on the walls if we did anything. Now air/vapor barriers have matured into a technology that is required by codes, comes in many flavors and is supported by its own association. There is still some debate in the industry as to vapor permeable vs vapor impermeable, liquid or sheet, and which chemistry is the most appropriate. Not to mention NFPA 285!

Join us for a freewheeling discussion about these topics as we engage our specifiers, technical experts, industry rep. as to what everyone is doing to specify and install air/vapor barriers on their projects.

The discussion will be facilitated by Randall Chapple AIA, SE, CSI, CCS, LEED AP, Associate Principal and Director, Specifications and Material Research at Goettsch Partners, with input encouraged from all.

Continuing Education: available credit to be posted once approved.

Learning Objectives:

  1. What are code requirements for air/vapor barriers?
  2. Should I be using an air or vapor barrier?
  3. When to use liquid or sheet air/vapor barriers?
  4. How do the different air/vapor barrier chemistries compare?
