125+ Attendees Make 16th Annual
Building Enclosure Event A Success
Our 16th Annual Building Enclosure event was held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Maggiano’s in Chicago. There were over 125 attendees between the two sessions (Breakfast & Lunch) to listen to Manfred Kehrer and Andi Mele present Modern Hygrothermal Performance Assessment by Simulation – Motivation, Basics & Examples. The presentation described the motivations for hygrothermal engineering, outlined the basic principles and showed multiple tools and examples. The learning objectives covered in the presentation were as follows:
- Learn the importance of hygrothermal performance assessment in today’s world of high performance building enclosures.
- Understand the transport phenomena for heat and moisture.
- Recognize the limitations of hygrothermal performance assessment by simulation.
- Learn the remaining challenges for hygrothermal performance assessment by simulation
Today’s building enclosures are more energy efficient than decades ago, mainly due to a higher level of insulation and air tightness. The downside is a higher risk of moisture accumulation with potential structural failure, decay, and unhealthy conditions as a consequence. Modern hygrothermal engineering has already made its way from science to engineering and is an important tool today for modern building enclosure design and analysis.
Manfred and Andi did a great job presenting and it was all made possible thanks to our sponsors Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope, Dupont Tyvek/Parksite, Hilti, & Rockwool. We would also like to give a huge shout out to all our Industry Partners - AIA Chicago, AIA Northeastern Illinois, BEC Chicago, CAC RCI, CRCA, CSI Nothern Illinois, Illinois Green, Passive House Alliance, and SEAOI.
