MSR Report: Greg Ceton Discusses ‘The Future of Work’

At the Master Specifiers Retreat in Coronado, Calif., earlier this month, CSI Director of Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects Greg Ceton, CSI, CDT, led a session titled, “The Future of Work.”

Here, Ceton summarizes his presentation, and explains why the subject is so timely for construction industry professionals.

“Future of Work allowed me to present examples of current real world successful intelligent agent and robotic implementation in the construction workspace,” Ceton said. “The centerpiece of the presentation was an interactive session that called for attendees to think about where these types of developments might go in the near future and what kind of resources could be harnessed to power them.”

Why is topic so timely for construction industry professionals?

“The construction industry is facing change from a number of directions – increased use of automation, access to more sophisticated tools for design, construction, and information storage and sharing, constant pressure to be more efficient and cost-effective, and to increase productivity, and a talent shortage that robs firms of what they need to deal with all of these pressures. The advent of increasingly sophisticated intelligent agents and robotics integrates solutions and provides answers to these pressures.”

What are the top three takeaways from your presentation you would like to share with people who were unable to attend?

1) Attendees learned about the elements needed to enable broad change in the AEC workplace, including datasets that will be useful for powering developments, and opportunities for new tools.

2) I also discussed the foundations of artificial intelligence and the shapes its likely implementations will take in the next five to ten years.

3) And the ways that artificial intelligence and agents have already enhanced a variety of professions, including software development, the legal profession, and medicine.

“I will also be presenting this topic at the CSI South Central Region Conference in Oklahoma City, April 4.”

The next Master Specifiers Retreat will take place June 19-21, 2019 in Chicago. Register here.
