Tuesday Top Three: Why Face-to-Face Networking Matters

CONSTRUCT 2018 in Long Beach, California, provided a welcome opportunity for CSI members and construction professionals to meet face-to-face to discuss trends, concerns, and mutual opportunities.

Here, in reply to a recent ‘What Do You Think’ post, Raymond Gaines FCSI, CCS, AIA, shares his top reasons why such in-person networking opportunities are so important to him.

1) Communication by written means contains words that can be carefully crafted, but can never reveal the writer's full intent. Written communication is lacking the additional benefit of tone of voice (which a telephone conversation can transmit) and body language. Some form of video chatting will not fully transmit the body language either.

2) State Farm Insurance made my point eloquently in their campaign of a couple of years ago that showed two scenarios where the characters used identical words but with entirely different meaning.

3) Additionally, I believe it is difficult, if not impossible, to have or maintain a relationship without at least some in-person contact. So I come to CONSTRUCT where I can maintain existing relationships and establish new ones.

Share your own thoughts on why events like CONSTRUCT are important to you.
