CSI is pleased to recognize the 2018 CSI Award Winners. Recipients will be honored during the CSI Honors and Awards Ceremony at CONSTRUCT 2018 in Long Beach, CA, Thursday, Oct. 4th. You can register to attend the ceremony in person here.

Robert W Simmons FCSI, CCPR, Life Time Member, CSC will be awarded the Distinguished Member Honor at the ceremony. Here, he discusses what the award means to him, and how CSI has impacted his life and career.

What does the Distinguished Member Award mean to you?
This is the highest award and honor that CSI has to bestow on its members. The honor was put forward by the Northwest Region Leaders, with endorsement letters written as a witness to the dossier submitted. The dossier was reviewed by the Institute Awards Committee and sent to the Institute’s Board for a discussion, where it was then voted on by my peers. I am honored and humbled that CSI bestowed this high award upon me. I was speechless when I was notified by the Institute’s Secretary, Ms Anne Roper, FCSI.

As this award recognizes distinguished service and your lifetime of work, of all your contributions to CSI, which of them are most significant to you?
The most significant are membership expansion in the Northwest Region, establishing new chapters and expanding their membership, developing a 501-C3 foundation in the Puget Sound area, and developing educational programs at the regional, individual chapter and College of Fellows level of CSI. It took a team of leaders at all levels to make this a reality.

How has being a member of CSI informed your life and career?
CSI has made a major impact on my personal and business career over the last thirty years, including working with friends, associates, and like-minded professionals within our AEC industry and working to make a difference in our industry.

What has been your favorite aspect of making your career in this field?
Working with and being associated with friends that I have made over the years, in CSI and associated organizations, and getting to know their families. I enjoy working with people that have common goals for success.

Is there anyone you would like to recognize for supporting the work you do?
My family, who supported my long hours and travels while in a leadership role at the chapter, regional, and Institute levels over the last 15 plus years. My CSI family, friends, and associates that worked with me have contributed to the success I have accomplished to date. They all share in this honor.

What advice would you share with newer CSI members about how to have a career as fulfilling as yours?
Get involved, get engaged and make your effort, big or small, make a difference for the future.
